Plaid-ish QAL – week 1+2

In der ersten Quilt Along Woche habe ich die Stoffe für den Plaidish Quilt ausgesucht. Meine Tochter hatte sich den dunklen Stoff: Ruby Star Society – Cosmos – black metallic gewünscht, der Quilt wird also recht dunkel und unbunt. Um die Stoffe besser in die Kategorien Darks/Mediums/Lights einzuordnen, hatte ich den schwarz-weiß Filter am Handy benutzt.

In the first Quilt Along week I chose the fabrics for the plaidish quilt. My daughter wanted the dark fabric: Ruby Star Society – Cosmos – black metallic, so the quilt will be quite dark and achromatic. In order to better classify the fabrics into the Darks/Mediums/Lights categories, I used the black and white filter on my cell phone. This is really practical and makes it much easier to sort fabrics.

Plaidish Yardage:

• Darks: 2 1/2 yards
• Mediums: 3 yards
• Lights: 1 1/2 yards

• Mittlere Stoffe/Mediums: Ruby Star Society Florida by Sarah Watts Rock Springs Black
• Helle Stoffe/Lights: Ruby Star Society Florida by Sarah Watts Wild Wings Shell

Ich liebe den Zuschnitt per Rollschneider und Stripology Ruler, damit kann man gleich mehrere Stofflagen exakt zuschneiden. Jedes Mal bin ich so happy, wie schnell der Zuschnitt damit erledigt ist. 😉

I love cutting with a rotary cutter and stripology ruler, so you can cut several layers of fabric exactly. Every time I am so happy how quickly the cutting is done with it. 😉

Es macht wirklich Sinn, die Streifen in Reihe zu nähen (Chain Piecing), dass spart viel Zeit und Garn.

It makes sense to sew the strips in a row (chain piecing), this saves time and yarn.

Die dunklen Blöcke bestehen aus (4x) 5″ Quadraten, (1x) 1,5″ Quadrat und (4x) 1,5 x 5″ Streifen. Dann wird zusammengenäht….

The dark blocks are made up of (4x) 5″ squares, (1x) 1.5″ square and (4x) 1.5 x 5″ strips. Then it is sewn together….

Hier hatte ich die 20 dunklen Blöcke auf den Teppich gelegt, damit man alle Blöcke zusammen sehen kann.

Here I put the 20 dark blocks on the carpet so that you can see all the blocks in context.

Die dunklen Blöcke gefallen mir schon mal ziemlich gut. Zuerst hatte ich befürchtet, das der Streifenstoff zu stark gemustert ist. Das hat sich allerdings nicht bewahrheitet.

I really like the dark blocks. At first I was afraid that the striped fabric was too heavily patterned. However, that has not come true.

So, jetzt gehe ich mal zum Zuschneidetisch und bereite mir die Medium Stoffe vor, damit ich bald weiternähen kann.

So, now I’m going to the cutting table and prepare the medium fabrics so that I can continue sewing soon.
